If you remember from my post about saying no, I’m a people pleaser. I love to help others and that leads to me saying yes to almost everything…
Well along with learning to say no I have also learned that sometimes you just gotta do things for yourself.
I’m not saying you should become super selfish and only do things for your own personal gain, but coming from a total people pleaser you have to make sure that you’re doing at least one thing for yourself every day.
So here are three ways you can spend some me time that aren’t the run of the mill “curling up with a good book”.
(Not that there’s anything wrong with that… Trust me, I love a good book.)
- Your local farmer’s market
- Pick up some fresh organic greens or some fresh strawberries. Most farmer’s markets even have some vendors who are selling their own creations. Today I tried a freeze pop made with mango, banana, lemon juice, and a little cane sugar. SO GOOD! The farmer’s market in Malibu was always my favorite spot too. You can find them by simply googling “farmer’s markets near me”.
- Trying a new dish
- I LOVE TO COOK. It’s so time consuming, but so worth it. And it’s the perfect way to spend some me time. So whenever I have some time to spare I will look in my fridge at what I have to use and try to find a recipe online that I can use them in. Sometimes I will forgo a recipe altogether and make something up. Today I had an extremely ripe papaya that needed to be eaten. So I baked it with a little lime and maple syrup… SO GOOD.
- Channel your creativity
- Make something! String some beads and make a bracelet, grab some colored pencils and start doodling, or break out a camera and start taking some pictures. Find something that inspires you and recreate it. Find something that you’ve always wanted to decorate your room with and make one. Every time you look at it you’ll be reminded of the time you took just for yourself.
You owe it to yourself to do something solely for yourself.
What kinds of things do you do in your me time? I’d love to try some of them out.
In other news, if you follow along on Instagram, I’m thinking I want to come up with an entire “Discovering Chicago” series. I was traipsing all over the city the other day and I came across some real gems. Shops, restaurants, and some all around really pretty spots.
