So, I’ve realized that I absolutely LOVE finding vegan restaurants when I travel. I’ve been doing this since I first became a vegan about three years ago.
And because of this realization I’ve decided to start a series for the restaurants I find!
Welcome to the Plant-Based Traveler series!
For those of you who didn’t read this last post, a large portion of my family lives in Michigan (my mother is originally from Berkley, MI) and we visit them as often as we can. The drive up here this time around I decided to research some fun places.
Out of all of the interesting places I found the winner was
This place was so aesthetically pleasing… which was enough to pull me in. But it was definitely the menu that made me stay.
When I see a vegan restaurant with a cheese board on the menu (cashew based cheese) it is definitely intriguing to me. One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone automatically offers me a salad.
Yes, I do love salad. Yes, I choose salad most of the time.
But just because I’m vegan doesn’t mean that’s the only thing I ever want to eat. Which is why I love coming up with vegan versions of every day recipes.
AND also why I love finding restaurants that make regular food the using plant based ingredients.
Let me give you a little background on Greenspace Cafe. The restaurant was started by Dr. Joel Kahn and his family. Dr. Kahn is a plant-based cardiologist who is known for using “Western and complementary therapies for total healing”. He believes in the healing power of plants and educates others on using food as medicine.
And thus, Greenspace Cafe was born.
I was beyond excited to see they had a well stocked fridge full of kombucha. (Read this post if you aren’t well versed on my obsession with kombucha) But that was topped by one of the best sandwiches I have ever consumed.
I ordered the Blackened Tempeh Avocado sandwich with mushrooms. My mother ordered the Brussels Fattoush salad. Not only was this food beautifully presented, it was absolutely incredible.
And I can promise you, it tastes even better then it looks.
SOOOOOOOO. Basically, if you find you’re self in the area of Ferndale, MI you MUST stop by Greenspace Cafe.
I promise promise promise you will LOVE it.
I really hope you guys enjoy hearing about my favorite little vegan finds! It’s truly a thrill when I find them during my travels.
