Today I’m going to tell you about my armpits…
Lol. No. I’m going to talk to you about natural deodorant and why you should be a lot more conscious of what you put on your skin… ESPECIALLY your armpits.
So yeah, this is a little gross. BUT. Bare with me. For the last… I don’t know how many years, it’s been rare that I’ve worn deodorant.
SUPER GROSS, right?
But not really… And here’s why.
I’m going to throw it back to my middle school science fair project. I was always that kid that had to step it up, you know? No volcanoes, no potato clocks. Nah. I did things like “Myth or Fact: Gum stays in your stomach for 7 years if you swallow it.”
In 7th grade I decided to study how absorbent our skin is and why you should really check out the ingredients in the products you’re putting on your skin.
Get this. If you rub garlic on the bottom of your foot, within minutes your breath will smell like garlic.
That’s crazy right?? Just think about how connected every inch of your body is to be able to do that.
Now think of all the fake synthetic chemicals your putting straight into your body every time you use lotion, sunscreen, face wash, bug spray, AND deodorant.
First of all. Regular deodorant uses aluminum as its main ingredient. Aluminum clogs your pores to keep you from sweating. Which I don’t know about you, but I prefer not to use products that clog my pores.
The thing that freaks me out the most about deodorant is that it’s soooo close to your boobs. And the once thought “irreplaceable” ingredient of aluminum in your regular deodorants has been found to change estrogen receptors in breast tissue which can contribute the development of cancer cells.
AKA. Every time you’re using regular deodorant you increase your risk of breast cancer…
Being that our world is now filled with so many things that cause cancer I’m not going to knowingly add another thing to the list.
Natural deodorants use charcoal as the main ingredient.
Charcoal doesn’t clog your pores. Instead it pulls toxins and moisture from the body using a process called adsorption. It naturally neutralized odors.
Body odor is not caused by sweat itself, it’s actually caused by the naturally occurring bacteria on your skin when it’s mixed with sweat. So the problem isn’t your sweat, it’s the bacteria on your skin. Charcoal can help to rid you of that bacteria eliminating odor all together.
Not to mention that most natural deodorants are vegan and cruelty-free.
So a couple of my favorite natural deodorants are Schmidt’s (pictured) and Kaia Naturals. Kaia Naturals are a detox deodorant that is perfect for transitioning from nasty ass aluminum filled deodorant to natural deodorant. And Schmidt’s, my personal favorite, is another charcoal based natural deodorant that smells AMAZING. I prefer the jar because A. You won’t over apply and you can use every little last bit and B. For every 5 you recycle back to Schmidt’s they send you a free one.
My personal favorite is the Rose Vanilla. I LOVE smelling like roses.
I’ve left you some links below to the natural deodorants I’ve tried. Check them out!
