I feel like it’s been a minute since I’ve ranted. So obviously we’re overdue. And I want to tell you about something that I’ve been thinking about lately.
I don’t know how many of you follow a guy who goes by @collinkartchner on instagram, but YOU SHOULD. Cause he’s causing a huge upset all over Instagram that you need to hear about.
He’s been calling out the ridiculousness of how incredibly fake the lives instagrammers are portraying. And even more importantly, how these manufactured posts are affecting the mental health of everyone who sees them.
NOBODY looks that perfect all the time.
Go look at my instagram right now. Those pictures were taken in hour increments months and months apart. And I can guarantee I wore those outfits three more times the weeks they were taken.
See this outfit right here? Yeah, those are my pajamas. I legit wear these out in public after sleeping in them. Glamorous? Not at all.
Not to mention, these were the only four photos I actually liked. The rest of them are perfect descriptions of how I look. But I narrowed it down to the ones I could actually be proud to post. How authentic is that?
I’ll let you in on a little secret,
for every PERFECT picture you see on instagram there are at least 100 other shots that will never see the light of day.
A disgusting amount of work goes into “perfecting a grid”. And the reason they go to this amount of effort is for the money companies pay them to advertise their products.
THE VERY SAME PRODUCTS THEY MAKE YOU FEEL INFERIOR FOR NOT HAVING.
I was recently given these Converse in exchange for making you feel like you NEED them. Because they complete my outfit somehow and because I wrote in my caption that I’ve worn them since I was a toddler…
While I have worn them since I was a toddler, they do not complete my life, they don’t make my life any happier.
But the colors of the photo and the product placement were good enough to land on my feed. AFTER SOME SERIOUS PHOTO EDITING. I literally took 25 other pictures just like this. Believe me, this wasn’t the first frame.
You know how they say “Don’t compare your behind the scenes to someone else’s highlight reel”???
Well it’s the freaking truth.
STOP COMPARING YOURSELF!
People are having anxiety attacks, crippling depression, destroyed self-esteem, and suicidal ideations simply because of the content they’re subjecting themselves to.
GUYS. THAT’S INSANE. And completely AVOIDABLE!
You know how you hate ads on the internet and always fast forward over commercials whenever you have the chance? You’re literally sitting through commercials and studying the hell out of ads on instagram without even realizing. You don’t know these people, and chances are you don’t ABSOLUTELY NEED whatever product they’re pushing.
Unless you know them or someone is contributing to your health, happiness, or education… UNFOLLOW THEM!
Most of the accounts I follow are products and companies I truly believe in. The rest are friends and family. Only a small portion of them are influencers that I don’t know. But honestly, I’m going to be re-evaluating those I choose to follow.
My dream for Sincerely Liv was always to promote healthy living and encourage others to live their most sincere life. Does that sometimes include products I encourage you to buy? Absolutely. But I want you all to keep me accountable. Call me out when you think I’m being fake!
In other new, I’ve been OBSESSING over skin care and immune support lately. And I’m excited to bring you content that will truly educate and encourage.
I SINCERELY from the bottom of my heart love and appreciate all of you.
